Our GutSmart platform provides resources for health professionals to update or extend their understanding of key guidelines and protocols for managing people living with inflammatory bowel disease (IBD). We offer six engaging eLearning modules developed specifically for GPs and other interested health professionals including general physicians, gastroenterologists, surgeons, and nurses. We also have free pre-recorded workshops and expert-led podcasts that complement the eLearning modules. Two CPD hours can be claimed from RACGP or ACRRM for each eLearning module.

Module 1: The GP's role in early detection of Crohn's disease & ulcerative colitis
In this module, you will learn about: the importance of early detection of IBD features and symptoms, the different clinical presentations of Crohn’s disease (CD) and ulcerative colitis (UC), the difference between irritable bowel syndrome (IBS) and IBD, investigations that GPs can conduct to assist diagnosis.

Module 1Module 2: Early intervention, therapies, referral and triage
In this module you will learn about: the importance of early intervention for people with suspected IBD and those in ‘at risk’ clinical scenarios, goals of treatment, including the step-up approach to therapies and IBD management, and the role of the GP, criteria for a quality IBD referral, importance of good referrals and closing the loop on all referrals.

Module 2Module 3: Management of IBD and preventative health care
In this module, you will learn about: key components for monitoring, follow up and review of IBD patients, the importance of comprehensive preventative care for IBD patients, symptom management including the management of an acute flare, and the importance of medication adherence, lifestyle modification and behavioural change.

Module 3Module 4: Multidisciplinary team-based care
In this module you will learn about evidence informed care, and how to identify specialists and other allied health services involved in a patient shared care plan, identify tools that are useful in long-term cycle of care and checklists, and outline coordinated care and the role of general practice.

Module 4Module 5: Managing complex IBD issues - ages and stages
This module discusses how to best manage children and young people with IBD, describes important factors in care transitions, explores how to manage fertility and pregnancy, and outlines approaches to managing IBD in the elderly patient.

This module describes how to manage patient relapse, outlines important considerations when dealing with IBD patients, explores how to manage IBD and complex mental health issues and discusses illicit drug management.
